A team of advocates, for advocates
The Wisconsin Advocate Peer Support Network is a community of advocates and professionals who support one another, both in the work and in life.
Why we exist
Advocacy work asks a lot. Advocates, court staff, legal professionals, and law enforcement officers spend their days helping people through some of the hardest moments of their lives. That work can take a toll, and sometimes the people doing it are facing harm in their own homes too. Our network was created so that no one in this field has to navigate that alone.
What peer support means
Peer support is the simple, powerful idea that people who have shared similar experiences can offer each other understanding that's hard to find anywhere else. It's not a substitute for professional help or legal counsel. It's connection: a colleague who gets it, a safe place to be honest about how the work and life land on you, and practical knowledge passed from one advocate to the next.
What we do
Members of our network supported the passage of Wisconsin's Change of Venue law, which gives advocates and other eligible professionals greater privacy and safety when seeking a restraining order. We continue that work by raising awareness of the law, sharing free educational materials with offices and partner organizations across the state, and standing beside one another as peers.
